Oliver Dewey Williams

Oliver D. Williams, 89, former managing editor of the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune, died at his home in Middleton on Aug. 26.

Williams was a graduate of Wild Rose High School and the University of Wisconsin journalism school. He served in the Army. After graduation, he worked as a reporter at the Waushara Argus and as managing editor of the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune before ending his career at the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn (Mickey); his parents, Robert O. and Gertie M. Williams; his brothers, Griffith and Kenneth; his brothers-in-law, Martin, Albin, Jack and Arnold; and his sister-in-law, Mardell Williams. He is survived by four sisters, Gertrude Ziebell, Beulah Dickson, Marjorie Voruda and Esther Williams; one sister-in-law, June Bjorklund; four children, Clifford (Colleen), Gail (Robert) Schmiedlin, Glen (Lynne), and James; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 15, 2017 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Madison, with visitation for one hour prior to the service.
