Death Notice: Helen Everson

Helen Everson

Helen Viola Everson, longtime editor and publisher of the Edgerton Reporter, died Monday in the care of her family at her home. She was 98.

Helen and her husband, Harland, purchased the Edgerton Reporter in 1951 and she devoted her efforts to building the newspaper. She continued to be the “boots on the ground” for nearly 30 years beginning when Harland was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly (1970-1982). The newspaper received many national and state awards while Helen was publisher.

Helen worked hard to ensure the Edgerton area was well served by its newspaper. She possessed strength, wisdom and resolve in her editorials. Although she stopped driving to the newspaper at the age of 92, she continued to contribute from home.

Helen is survived by her daughters Diane, Edgerton, and Carol (Steve Yttri) Everson, Franklin, Wis.; and two grandsons, Eric and Tyler Yttri. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harland; parents; sisters; and brother.

Visitation will take place on from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3 at the Apfel Ehlert Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 315 Lord St. (U.S. 51), Edgerton. Visitation will also take place at 11 a.m. prior to a noon funeral service on Monday, Dec. 4 at Central Lutheran Church, 100 W. Rollin St., Edgerton.
