Student bypasses bigger jobs to run small hometown paper

Nash Weiss, a 21-year-old incoming senior at UW-Madison, is serving as interim editor of his hometown paper, the Mondovi Herald-News.

Weiss, who recently completed an internship with NBC-TV News in Washington, D.C., returned to Mondovi to fill in for longtime editor Beth Kraft while she is on maternity leave for the summer, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel’s Bill Glauber wrote in a feature about the young journalist.

“You feel like you need to serve your local community,” Weiss told the newspaper. “I grew up here, I care about the community, I always will. This is the way I could give back.”
