Google, SPJ team up to train Wisconsin journalists ahead of elections

MADISON – Journalists in Wisconsin will have the opportunity to attend free training workshops this fall ahead of the 2018 midterm elections.

The Google News Initiative and the Society of Professional Journalists Training Program teamed up in 2015 to train journalists on Google tools and workflows that can help with audience engagement, research, reporting and data visualizations.

As part of that ongoing effort, trainers are hitting the road in the lead-up to major elections. Sessions will focus on safety and security, verification and fact-checking and data journalism.

They’ll make two stops in Wisconsin — one on Oct. 2 at Marquette University in Milwaukee and another Oct. 4 at UW-Madison. Additional training sessions will be held in Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Minnesota, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Washington D.C. and West Virginia.

More information on the training workshops is available on the SPJ website.
