Solutions Journalism Network seeking grant applicants

Solutions Journalism Network is seeking proposals for the second round of grants in its Renewing Democracy initiative, which encourages reporting about how people and institutions are responding to issues at the heart of our democracy.

In August, the network awarded 20 grants to newsrooms as part of the initiative.

In the second round, SJN is looking for proposals that focus on the November midterm elections. Thirteen grants of $2,500 each will be awarded to news organizations to support stories, projects and collaborations that report on electoral and political innovations that emerged in the run-up to the midterms – and how those responses played out. Stories that examine attempts to strengthen campaign and electoral processes at any level of government, irrespective of timing, will be eligible for support.

The contest is open to newsrooms that have worked with SJN before or are new to solutions journalism. Outlets that are new to SJN will be required to participate in a webinar or in-person workshop about solutions journalism.

Solutions Journalism Network will host a webinar at noon Wednesday, Oct. 10, to address questions regarding the application process, grant criteria and resources. Register here for the webinar.

The application deadline is Nov. 13.

If you have questions, contact Susan Smith Richardson, susan@solutionsjournalism.org, or Delaney Butler, delaney@solutionsjournalism.org. SJN will host a webinar about the grant and application process in October.
