Award-winning Fox Cities journalist Steve Wideman dies at 66

Steve Wideman, a talented and versatile writer, photographer and videographer, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, after a four-year battle with cancer. He was 66.

Born Oct. 26, 1951, in Neenah, Wideman earned his bachelor’s degree from UW-Oshkosh. He went on to distinguish himself as a well-respected and award-winning journalist in the Fox Cities and beyond.

Wideman spent most of his career at The (Appleton) Post-Crescent and the Oshkosh Northwestern. He also wrote for The Compass of the Diocese of Green Bay and The Catholic Herald, which covers the Archdiocese of Milwaukee.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13 at St. Margaret Mary Catholic Parish, 620 Division St., Neenah, with burial to follow. Visitation will be held Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Kessler Funeral Home, 304 S. Commercial St., Neenah.

Wideman is survived by his wife, Mary; sons, Steven Benjamin (Sarah Kloepping), Fr. Brian, Robert (Angie) and Bradley (Julie); five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
