Northwoods River News proposes records lawsuit settlement

RHINELANDER – The Northwoods River News has proposed a settlement with the city of Rhinelander in a recent open records case. In exchange for the city’s payment of $8,000 to cover the newspaper’s legal fees, the River News has agreed to drop the lawsuit it filed against the city in August 2017.

The lawsuit was filed after the city provided heavily redacted documents in response to a request seeking complaints about several members of the public works department. In July, the city released the unredacted records.

The newspaper is still reviewing the records as part of a broader investigation into the public works department, the River News‘ Jamie Taylor reported.
