WCIJ chosen for Solutions Journalism Network grant

MADISON – The Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism was one of 10 newsrooms chosen by the Solutions Journalism Network to receive a grant in the second round of its Renewing Democracy initiative.

Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism, WCIJThe $2,500 grants, which Solutions Journalism Network announced Tuesday, go toward reporting on electoral and political outcomes in the 2018 midterm elections and community and government-led efforts to increase civic engagement. The Renewing Democracy initiative encourages reporting about efforts to reinvigorate democracy.

WCIJ will use its grant to report about the impact of NextGen, a multimillion-dollar initiative to increase the youth vote. The Center’s reporting will include a look at voter turnout in targeted precincts and whether NextGen’s strategies could be replicated on a national level.

All stories funded by the grants will be published by March 11. Other recipients include Bay City News, CivicStory, Koahnic Broadcasting, Indigenous Media Freedom Alliance, Issue Media, the Miami Herald, Mississippi Today, New Mexico PBS and the Philadelphia Citizen.
