UW-Oshkosh professor sues to prevent records release

OSHKOSH — A UW-Oshkosh professor is suing the university and the UW System Board of Regents to prevent them from releasing records to the (Madison) Wisconsin State Journal.

On Oct. 9, the State Journal requested records related to plagiarism allegations made against English professor Christine Roth. Per the state’s public records law, a UW-Oshkosh records custodian notified Roth prior to releasing the records, prompting Roth to file a complaint on Nov. 26 to block the release of the records. The lawsuit claims the law favors nondisclosure of the records and overrides the public’s interest in the documents, the State Journal reported.
