25 US-based journalists sought for criminal justice fellowships

The Center on Media, Crime and Justice at John Jay College is seeking up to 25 U.S.-based fellows to report on the increasing number of inmates behind bars because of their inability to pay bail or to come up with fees associated with their convictions.

The fellowships will kick off at a symposium and workshop entitled “Cash Register Justice” on March 7-8 in New York City. The event will include policymakers, researchers and practitioners with special expertise on the phenomenon of America’s 21st-century “Debtor Prisons.” Fellowships will support travel and accommodation to New York City for the conference, and additional research help for reporters once they return to their home outlets.

Applications should be submitted by Feb. 15 by filling out the online form. Questions can be directed to journalism coordinator Maurice Possley at mauricepossley@gmail.com.
