Sexual assault victims often wait months to see charges filed, review shows

A USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin investigation has found that district attorneys take far longer than the state’s three-week guideline to decide on charges in sexual assault cases.

In counties all over Wisconsin, people who report being sexually assaulted often wait months while prosecutors consider filing charges. Data collected by the state show that prosecutors in at least 25 counties last year, took longer than state guidelines, Keegan Kyle reported. In 2017, at least 44 counties took longer than three weeks on average.
