Former Black River Falls-area journalist Jean Anderson dies

Jean Anderson, who worked for many years as a journalist in the Black River Falls area, died Wednesday, Jan. 23. She was 88.

Anderson, a 1948 graduate of Black River Falls High School, was an active news correspondent for the Banner Journal, (Neillsville) Clark County Press, Melrose Chronicle, (Eau Claire) Leader-Telegram, La Crosse Tribune, Winona Daily News, and had several articles published in the Wisconsin edition of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

An avid Jackson County and Black River Falls historian, Jean researched genealogy for many individuals and families in both the United States and Norway, and was a contributor to numerous local historical publications.

Anderson is survived by her son, Matt, and his wife, Marcia, of Merrillan; her brother, Richard (Dick) Hagen, of Madison; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, Harland Anderson, preceded her in death in 2002.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. April 13 at United Methodist Church, 100 Fourth St. N, Black River Falls.
