The newspaper was recognized for its Cap Times Idea Fest, which launched in 2017 as a two-day ideas festival on the UW-Madison campus. The festival has brought in over 150 speakers and 2,500 attendees in its first two years.

The Cap Times also brought in significant revenue through the festival. Ticket sales tripled from 2017 to 2018, increasing the margin of revenue to expenses from over 40 percent the first year to nearly 150 percent in the second. The success has allowed the newspaper to bring in a presenting sponsor on a three-year deal.

Chris Murphy, managing editor of The Cap Times, oversees the Idea Fest and will talk about its success at next week’s 2019 WNA Convention.
