Former State Journal photo editor Meg Theno dies at 66

Meg Theno, who served as Wisconsin State Journal photo editor for seven years and spent nearly two decades at Madison newspapers, died Tuesday, April 16, at age 66.

Theno, a native of Aurora, Illinois, earned her bachelor’s degree from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She went on to get her master’s in journalism and photojournalism from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

In 1984, Theno joined the photo staff at The Capital Times, where she would remain for six years before moving over to the State Journal. Theno was named State Journal photo editor in 1995 and led the newspaper’s conversion from film to digital cameras.

In 2002, Theno joined the Chicago Tribune, where she served as senior photo editor until retiring in 2015.
