KENOSHA – Cartoonist John Hambrock, author of “The Brilliant Mind of Edison Lee,” has been nominated by the National Cartoonist Society for the Reuben Award for best newspaper comic strip.

Hambrock, who works out of a studio in downtown Kenosha, received the same honor in 2010. He told the Kenosha News that while it is an honor just to be nominated, “I want to win this time!”

The Kenosha News is one of about 40 papers that has been running the comic strip about a 10-year-old boy genius since its November 2006 debut. It’s now published by about 120.

For a few days this month, however, it took a hiatus in Kenosha following a change to the News’ comics lineup.

Nearly 2,000 readers voted on what should be included in the new shared comics page for the News and The (Racine) Journal Times. “Edison Lee” didn’t make the cut, so it was dropped. But as of May 10, it returned to the newspaper in a new spot, on the puzzles page.
