She was born March 18, 1920, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Fred and Mae (Jennings) Repass. While attending Cornell College, she met Phil Carspecken, who she went on to marry on Sept. 13, 1941, in Waterloo, Iowa.

After five years in Chicago, where she worked for Standard Oil, Margaret and Phil moved to Wausau with their daughter Kathleen. The Carspeckens had three more children in Wausau: Christine, Phil and Randy.

Margaret started her journalism career in Wausau after her children were grown. She began as an obituary writer for the Wausau Daily Record-Herald before taking on a reporting role with the Teen Page. Carspecken spent five years with the newspaper before moving on to become a teacher’s aide at Grant Elementary School in Wausau.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at First Universalist Unitarian Church of Wausau. Visitation will be held at the church beginning at 10 a.m.
