STOUGHTON – After six years with Unified Newspaper Group, Scott Girard is leaving his assistant editor role to become an education reporter for The Cap Times in Madison.

Girard, who has already begun covering Madison schools, announced his departure in Thursday’s edition of the Stoughton Courier Hub. He also told the story of how he almost missed out on the opportunity at UNG, prioritizing a movie with friends over a call about an interview.

During his time with UNG, Girard covered the Verona Area School District, while also helping to launch two new print publications: Corre la Voz and the Fitchburg Star. In 2016, he was named a WNA Future Headliner.

Girard also served as editor in chief of The Daily Cardinal while earning his bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science at UW-Madison.
