The book, which will be released Oct. 15, is a collection of stories and profiles of people he met while traveling through Wisconsin, the Baraboo News Republic reports. A New Jersey native, Hannah has had a home on the Wisconsin River near Prairie du Sac since 1975.

Hannah served as CEO of the formerly Madison-based satirical newspaper The Onion from 2004 to 2015. His 34-year journalism career also includes stints at the Milwaukee Journal, where he served as a reporter, managing editor and executive editor. For 12 years, Hannah also wrote the syndicated column “State of Mind.”

One of the stories featured in the book, from his time as a farm reporter for the Journal in the late 1970s, even earned Hannah a WNA Better Newspaper Contest award. Hannah was on his way to play tennis in Sauk City when he reported on an elephant that escaped from the circus and ran through the streets of Prairie du Sac. Hannah’s reporting won him an award in the WNA’s Best Feature category, as well as the Associated Press award for Best Spot News Story.
