Former Kenosha News journalist Michael Hughes dies at 78

Michael Edward Hughes, who started his career at the Kenosha News before moving into public relations, died Thursday, Oct. 31, in Vero Beach, Fla. He was 78.

Hughes was born Jan. 12, 1941, in Kenosha to Edward and Marie Hughes. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School in Kenosha before earning his journalism degree at Marquette University in 1964.

In 1965, Hughes married Elizabeth White, also from Kenosha. They had two children together, Michael and Anne.

Hughes started his professional career as a journalist at the Kenosha News. After his time at the News, Hughes left journalism for public relations. In 1974, he took a position heading Selz Seabolt in New York City and moved his family to Greenwich, Conn., where they would live for the next 34 years.

A celebration of Hughes’ life is planned for Nov. 23 in Naples, Fla.
