Report for America to place eight journalists in Wisconsin

NEW YORK – Six Wisconsin newsrooms will be among the 164 hosts for a record 250 journalists in the 2020 class of Report for America, the national service program announced Monday.

The latest group of Report for America journalists is more than four times larger than the 2019 class. The host newsrooms include 74 newspapers, 39 digital-only websites, 39 public radio stations and 12 local TV stations.

Wisconsin newsrooms selected for 2020 include three newspapers, the Green Bay Press-Gazette, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Wausau Daily Herald. Also selected for 2020 were Wisconsin Watch, WTMJ-TV in Milwaukee and the Milwaukee Neighborhood News Service.

In Green Bay, the Press-Gazette will have its reporter focus on Native American issues both locally and across the state. The Daily Herald reporter’s beat will be population loss and its effects, while the Journal Sentinel will have two journalists report on the city’s undercovered ethnic communities. including Latino neighborhoods on the city’s south side, as well as Hmong and Native American communities.
