Former Gov. Scott Walker will be the featured speaker at a Newsmaker Luncheon, hosted jointly by the Milwaukee Press Club and WisPolitics.com, on Tuesday, Dec. 3.

Walker was elected as a Republican to the state Assembly in 1993, where he contributed to legislation on welfare reform, public safety, and educational opportunities. He was re-elected four times, serving in that role until 2002, when he was elected Milwaukee County executive in a special election. He was re-elected in 2004 and 2008.

Walker was elected as the state’s 45th governor in 2010 and drew national attention shortly after his inauguration by introducing legislation that limited collective bargaining for most Wisconsin public employees. Opposition to the law led to a recall effort in 2012, but Walker prevailed, becoming the first incumbent governor in American history to win a recall election.

In 2014, Walker defeated Democratic challenger Mary Burke to win a second four-year term. After his inauguration in 2015, Walker was a candidate for the Republican nomination for President for a time but withdrew and in 2018, ran for a third term. He was defeated by Democrat Tony Evers.

Walker currently is president-elect of the Young America’s Foundation, an organization for young adults whose mission is “ensuring that increasing numbers of young Americans understand and are inspired by the ideas of individual freedom, a strong national defense, free enterprise, and traditional values.” Walker will become president in early 2021 when Ron Robinson, the current president, steps down.

Walker will take questions from a panel of journalists and from the audience at the luncheon, set for 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Newsroom Pub, 137 E. Wells St.
