Description

Lee Enterprises Design Center is seeking a multitalented journalist to bring a variety of skills to a newly formed team focused on delivering unique content covering broad topics to the company and its readers.

The new special interest publications team will leverage journalism for all platforms, from traditional print publications to our digital and social brands, and is in need of candidates that can bring an array of skills to the job, such as writing, editing and page design. The ideal candidates will help tell stories to an audience wherever they consume news, be it newspapers, desktop and mobile websites, or social media. Our energetic staff is working hard to change the perception of designers as merely "visual people." We work with the belief that good content drives readership, and we push our staff to be content creators and editors. If you possess the heart of a journalist and an innovative mind, we want you to join our close-knit, talented design team.

Our ideal candidates will have experience in reporting, newspaper or magazine design, understand the fast-paced, newsroom environment, and have the ability to multitask. Candidates also must display a strong instinct for problem-solving, a sense of urgency, and a passion for news. Experience with InDesign and Photoshop is preferred.

Additional skills in creating GIFs, motion graphics and the ability to edit video, while not required, are huge pluses as the position evolves with our digital platforms. Please indicate if you have video editing experience using tools such as Adobe Premiere or Final Cut Pro, as well as other visual storytelling tools ranging from Adobe Spark to web-based applications like Wochit, Canva, Piktochart or Infogram.

In this position, you must be willing to work a varied schedule which includes night/weekend hours.
