The Portage Daily Register, a 3,000-circulation daily newspaper in a thriving Wisconsin community is looking for an energetic reporter to join our team. Candidates should be able to demonstrate an ability to develop trustworthy news sources within government and private organizations, come up with unique angles to approach common news stories, regularly generate story ideas and be able to handle breaking news assignments as they come up while also developing long-term projects. A bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field and experience with photography basics and government reporting are preferred. Candidates also should be comfortable using social media to promote coverage, seek out news sources and communicate with readers. Work hours will include some nights and weekend coverage.

Portage is located between the Fox and Wisconsin rivers at the intersection of interstates 39, 90 and 94 in south-central Wisconsin, about 45 miles north of Madison. The area features numerous opportunities for outdoor activities as well as quality shopping and dining. The Portage Daily Register is a publication of Capital Newspapers and offers competitive wages and benefits. Candidates willing to relocate to Portage will be given preference.
