The 2017 WCMA Better Newspaper Contest is now open!

The WCMA Better Newspaper Contest recognizes excellence in student journalism across the state. Entries, which can be made through the online entry portal, are due by midnight Dec. 18, 2017. All mailed entries must also be postmarked by this date. Extensions will not be granted.

Submissions to the 2017 contest must have appeared in print or online between Aug. 31, 2016 – Sept. 1, 2017.

Awards will be presented at the Annual WCMA Convention on Friday, April 13, 2018, at the Sheraton Madison Hotel in Madison.

Submit Entries

RULES & ELIGIBILITY

All active campus newspapers covering Wisconsin public and private college and university campuses are eligible.

Entry divisions are:

Division A: published weekly or daily OR undergraduate enrollment of 7,500 or more

Division B: published monthly or bi-monthly OR undergraduate enrollment of 7,499 or less

Entries will be merged to the next highest entry division automatically if a category received three or fewer entries.

ENTRY FEES & PAYMENT

There is a $7.50 entry fee for each entry. Payment must be made before the contest deadline and can be submitted via credit card, Paypal or check.

Checks should be made payable to the Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation and mailed to: WCMA Better Newspaper Contest, 34 Schroeder Court, Suite 220, Madison, WI 53711.

There is no fee to enter the John Patrick Hunter First Amendment Contest.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS

General Excellence: (Requires hard-copy submission) Before mailing papers, entrants must submit information about the entry online, including uploading PDFs of each front page. A contest label will then be generated and should be printed and affixed to hard copies.
