Boardman, whose career in Milwaukee dates back to 1985, has served as deputy sports editor since 2014. She succeeds Mike Davis, who in January accepted an early retirement package from Gannett after 29 years with the newspaper.

After starting her career as a score taker on the sports desk, Boardman worked her way up to a number of copy editing positions before being named assistant sports editor in 2000 and deputy sports editor in 2014. In the new role, she will report to Robert Zizzo, sports news director for USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin.
